Symptoms of Cataracts
The first signs and symptoms of cataracts are related to a decrease in vision that makes it difficult or limits the patient from performing their usual activities. In these cases, they usually experience cloudy or blurred vision of objects, whose contours they cannot distinguish clearly, photosensitivity, halos around light sources, a dimmer perception of colors, or a loss of night vision.
These symptoms of cataracts impair the quality of your vision and lead to a deterioration in your overall quality of life. In this regard, it is advisable to undergo regular check-ups from the age of 50 onwards. The aim is to detect cataracts at an early stage and thus determine the optimal time for surgery based on their degree of progression.
If cataracts are not treated within a reasonable period of time, there is a risk that they will harden excessively. This can make surgery more difficult and compromise the results obtained. For this reason, ophthalmologists tend to avoid long waiting periods for patients and treat cataracts before their visual impairment reaches its maximum level. This makes surgery easier and safer, and visual recovery faster.
