Most common visual problems in the
child age
In the case of children, the need for early detection and correction of eye pathologies is especially important. Thus, it is convenient to make sure that their visual system is working properly to avoid problems in their learning. We must keep in mind that many school activities depend on the quality of their vision. It is essential that parents and teachers carefully observe behaviors that show difficulties in the vision of the youngest children.
Ophthalmologic checkups are recommended before the age of 3-4 years. In fact, the first years of life are crucial because this is when vision develops.
Most common childhood eye diseases
- Myopia: It causes poor vision of distant objects, because the image of objects is formed in front of the retina.
- Hyperopia: Near vision is affected because images are focused behind the retina.
- Astigmatism: A refractive defect that causes blurred vision at near and far distances.
- Lazy eye: One of the two eyes is used less than the other, resulting in loss of visual acuity.
- Strabismus: One or both eyes deviate from the natural alignment of gaze, i.e., squint.
