Main visual conditions

Many people have the habit of going to the ophthalmologist only when they suffer from visual conditions. However, prevention is essential to ensure better treatment and prognosis of vision pathologies. For this reason, it is advisable to go to the specialist for a regular ophthalmological check-up . It should not be forgotten that eye diseases affect all age groups.

  • In childhood

The age indicated to start carrying out periodic check-ups is from 3 years old. However, in the event of any alteration in eyesight or if there is a family history of genetic basis, you should consult an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

  • In adolescence

Refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) are the most common problems. Although there are no reliable data on the relationship between myopia and the use of electronic devices, the truth is that the time spent exposing people at close distances increases considerably. In any case, it is important to use them responsibly to avoid possible deterioration in the visual system.

  • In adulthood

One of the most common pathologies is cataracts. In fact, the increase in life expectancy and the ageing of the population contribute to its increasing prevalence. It is also the leading cause of visual impairment in the world. It occurs as a result of the progressive loss of transparency of the crystalline lens, which is the natural lens of the eye.
