Although the eyelids are not part of the eyeball, they play an important role in the vision system as they fulfil various functions: protecting the eye, a particularly sensitive organ, maintaining the tear film, which is continuously replenished by blinking, distributing the tear evenly over the entire ocular surface, and helping to fall asleep. In fact, thanks to the reflex act of closing the eyes, the eyelids prevent information from the outside from disturbing rest.
