What is it?
Trichiasis and distichiasis
Trichiasis of the eyelids occurs when the eyelashes grow towards the interior of the eyeball, which can cause continuous rubbing against the cornea, conjunctiva or the eyelid itself. In severe cases this rubbing can cause corneal injury and even loss of vision.
Distichiasis arises when eyelashes grow in an anomalous area, where there are usually no eyelashes (generally from the Meibomian glands ). Like trichiasis, it also generates constant rubbing that can damage ocular structures.

Trichiasis and distichiasis treatment

Cauterization of follicles with Ellman tip
Through this cauterization technique, which is performed under local anesthesia in about 15-20 minutes, the follicles of the abnormal eyelashes are burned to prevent their growth, caused by distichiasis or trichiasis, and the possible friction with ocular structures.
