In June 2024, we traveled to Bolivia to bring vision to people in situations of social vulnerability who have no access to ophthalmological or optometric care.En Junio de 2024 nos desplazamos a Bolivia para repartir miradas a personas en situación de vulnerabilidad social que no tienen acceso a una atención oftalmológica u optométrica.
The volunteer team from Fundació Oftalmedic Salvà spent five days carrying out eye examinations in the areas of La Paz and El Alto, covering a total of four schools, a special education center, a small town in the Yungas region with 100 inhabitants, and the San Francisco de Asís Hospital in La Paz.
As a result, we issued 183 eyeglass prescriptions for these individuals—especially children and young people—who needed better vision but lacked the resources to obtain glasses.
Thanks to the support of Óptica Alfonso in producing the lenses, we assembled the glasses and sent them to these people who need them so much, helping make their lives a little easier.
This campaign was made possible through collaboration with the humanitarian organization Misol Franciscanas, which manages several facilities providing assistance to the populations of La Paz and El Alto. These include the San Francisco de Asís Educational Center, which supports people at risk of social exclusion; the San Francisco de Asís Hospital, which cares for patients who cannot afford medical attention; and the San Francisco de Asís Center in El Alto, an educational project aimed at children and adolescents from vulnerable families, focusing on early education, children with disabilities, and those with learning difficulties.
